Helping Our Communtiy
The Riverside community has rapidly become a large but beautiful city, now with about 300,000 residents.  It originated in the early 1870’s and became known for its citrus growth industry.  When Uptown Kiwanis was formed in 1956, the community was much smaller, with a population then, of about 65,000.   The city now has four major colleges, with a student population alone, of approximately 35,000!  It is the County seat of government for Riverside County with a population of over 2,000,000 residents.

The city has seven major public High Schools and over 30 Elementary Schools.  There are numerous opportunities to work with these schools on scholarships, learning opportunities, library enhancements, community service projects, etc.    Likewise, there are a number of Pre-Schools, and Senior Citizen Assisted Living or Convalescent Homes in the City, which open many other avenues of service for the Club to improve its community.

The city is often thought of as the arts and cultural center of the Inland Empire, and support for these activities provides yet other opportunities for Service.
